March Hike: Golden Valley Lookout Tower
March 9, 2026 @ 9:30am

Location:  Meet either at Ingles Parking Lot at the south end, or at Lake Lure Yoga Parking lot (6229 Big Level Rd, Mill Spring)  Donna Kurdelmeier will be meeting hikers at Ingles and Carla Drummond will meet hikers at Lake Lure Yoga.

Meeting time: 9:30 am

This scenic trail at the Golden Valley Jellystone campground climbs along a natural surface path through mixed hardwood forest toward the old lookout tower site.  The route winds beneath oaks, pines, and hickories with stretches of rhododendron and mountain laurel lining the way.  Gentle switchbacks carry trail-goers up the ridge where openings in the trees reveal views of the surrounding South Mountains.  Birds and deer are often seen along the trail, and the quiet forest setting adds to the sense of retreat.  When you reach the top, you can spend a little time climbing to the top of a very nice tower where the views are great!

Please bring a lunch.   Dogs are allowerd but please make sure they are leashed.  The trail is a moderate 2 mile hike up and back with a 501 foot elevation.

RSVP: Donna Kurdelmeier at donnakurdelmeier@gmail.com so we will know who to look for at the 2 different meeting locations.
